About the Scholarship

The Brownie Van Galder Foundation is proud to have created the Brownie Foundation Scholarship Program. Under the Program, one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding senior athlete attending Fresno High School in Fresno, California. Children of FUSD employees are eligible to apply and should contact the Foundation directly for more information. 

• Eligible candidates are graduating seniors from Fresno High School with a record of strong academic, athletic, and volunteerism in the community in non-school sponsored activities and participation in extracurricular school activities. 
• Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and plan to attend a 2- or 4-year college or technical school.
• Scholarship funds will be paid in December or January for the second semester of the student’s first year directly to the college and not to the student. It will be the student’s responsibility to submit to the Foundation at that time an invoice for second-semester tuition and fees, student ID number, and college information.
• Applicants must have a letter of recommendation from an FUSD faculty member, including a guidance counselor, teacher, administrator, or coach, attesting they are a qualified fit for this scholarship program.  The application deadline is June 1, by 4:00 p.m. 
• The applications will be reviewed, and the recipient will be selected by a committee consisting of those who knew Brownie well and knew the characteristics of the recipient he would have awarded.
